
Bernard H. Hibma, 90, of Holland, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Bernard was born in Holland on June 11, 1932, to Rev. Tiede and Elizabeth (Bartels) Hibma. He married Shirley Zuverink in 1951, and also served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. His brother Peter Hibma was killed in action while fighting in Korea. In 1952, Bernard returned home to Holland and started his career at the City of Holland. He became the Superintendent of the City of Holland Parks and Cemetery, retiring in 1996 after 40-plus years of service to his community. Bernie loved his outdoor work, tending to flowers, and he also enjoyed hunting and bowling. He and Shirley are members of Calvary on 8th Church in Holland Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Peter, Caroline, Bernice, & Lena; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Donald Veldhoff, Gerald and Joanne Zuverink, Bonnie and Henry Meurer, Ronald Zuverink.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 71 years Shirley, their daughter Sue Hibma, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tim and Ginger Roelofs (Jessie, Jasmine, Alonzo, Alberto), Sara and Mike Warner (Jenavee, Ashlyn, Arianna, Troy), April Bolton (Hailey, Savanna, Marisol, Mia); brother Sidney Hibma, brother-in-law Robert and Joanne Zuverink, sister-in-law Maryann Simons, and many nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation with the Hibma Family will be 1:00-2:00 pm, Monday, January 23, 2023, a memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm, at Calvary on 8th, 995 E. 8th Street, Holland MI 49423. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Please no flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Calvary on 8th.
