HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 12, 2023) –Deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury traffic crash Thursday morning in the southbound lanes of US-31 at Port Sheldon Street in Olive Township.
Preliminary investigation at the scene showed that a West Ottawa Public School bus was traveling southbound on US-31 in the right lane. The bus was slowing for a red traffic signal at Port Sheldon Street. As the bus was slowing it was struck from behind by a small passenger car that was also southbound. The impact wedged the passenger car under the rear bumper of the bus. The bus driver then stopped and immediately reported the crash.
There were no students on the bus at the time of the crash and the bus driver was not injured.
The driver of the car was transported by AMR in stable condition for treatment of possible internal injuries. One lane of US-31 was closed for nearly an hour for investigation and scene clean up.
This crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
