Jack had a very successful real estate career. In 1973 he started selling real estate at Woodland Realty, and in 1979 became the Sales Manager. In 1981, he and four partners purchased Woodland Realty and under his leadership, they were consistently one of the top-producing real estate companies in Western Michigan. In 2006, Woodland was sold to the Schmidt Family of Companies and became Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt. For over ten years, Jack continued to lead the company.

He was also proud to have received the ATHENA award in 1996 (first time a male received this award). Additionally, he was involved in developing several communities in the Holland/Zeeland area, such as Tiffany Shores, Tiffany Ridge, and Greystone Estates. He was very proud of his accomplishments but always gave credit to those who surrounded him, and enjoyed watching others succeed.
Over the years, Jack served on community boards and volunteered his time and resources to several non-profits: United Way, Boys & Girls Club, Center for Women in Transition (now known as Resilience), Outdoor Discovery Center, and Ottawa/Allegan Wildlife Association to name a few. Jack was also a longtime member of Christ Memorial Church.
