HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 14, 2022) – Although winter officially begins next Wednesday, work on building three homes on Holland’s west side through Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity began in earnest this week.
Starting this past Monday, local builders partnering with the non-profit agency had a goal of getting all three residences in the Vista Green development off of West 36th Street framed by the end of the week. The overall development is a 42-home neighborhood with 18 Habitat homes and 24 dwellings from Jubilee Ministries for families who make anywhere from 30-120% of this area’s median income.
Participating builders are Baumann Building, Bosgraaf Homes, Mike Schaap Builders and Schippers Construction, with local church partners providing snacks and meals for the volunteer builders as they work throughout the week. Future homeowners have already begun their partnership with Lakeshore Habitat by participating in financial literacy and homeownership classes, as well as started their sweat equity hours by helping build other Lakeshore Habitat homes or working in the Lakeshore ReStore.
The Blitz Build at 285 West 36th Street runs from 7 AM to 5 PM through this Friday. If you would like to volunteer to help finish these homes or financially support Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity, visit here.
