ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 8, 2022) – The classic “Field of Dreams” line of, “If you build it, he will come,” may be true for some things, but the cost of building it has to taken into consideration.
Such is the case in Zeeland, where city leaders such as Mayor Kevin Klynstra are pushing ahead on building a snowmelt system for the downtown district that could cost upwards of $8.5 million to construct. While federal ARPA funds can help defray some of that, property owners may be asked to pony up $647,000 in special assessments under a plan that will be reviewed during a special meeting on Friday morning at 7:30 AM in the Howard Miller Community Center (14 S. Church St.).
The project could go out for bidding sometime in the next six weeks, with construction targeted for this coming spring.
