LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 6, 2022) – Lawmakers in Lansing are expected to leave the Capitol with a whimper and not a bang.
The state House has just sessions planned for Tuesday and Wednesday before outgoing Speaker Jason Wentworth gavels the Lower Chamber home for the holidays. Lansing observers feel that no substantive legislation will be pushed through, unlike “lame duck” sessions in the past when controversial issues that could have been a factor in the General Election were dealt with.
For soon-to-be third term Republican Representative Luke Meerman of Coopersville, he has an ongoing concern.
The state Senate plans to meet on Wednesday before recessing.
As for Governor Whitmer and the Democrats who will have complete control of state government after the first of the year…
Talk last month of a tax cut being passed in lame duck appears to have died down after limited action was taken in the Senate last week.
