Two Hope College student-athletes have been selected as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week: women’s basketball’s Ella McKinney and women’s indoor track and field’s Ana Tucker.
McKinney (Haslett, Michigan / Haslett HS) is the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) is the MIAA Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career.
McKinney averaged 23.0 points per game during two Flying Dutch victories on the court last week.
During a 62-56 victory at No. 15-ranked Calvin on November 30, McKinney topped Hope with 22 points, including 17 during the first half.
The biology major delivered a team-best 24 points during a 86-64 victory against visiting Wittenberg University (Ohio) on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse. McKinney shot 75 percent from the field (9-12) and 85.7 percent from the foul line (6-7).
Tucker clocked a winning effort of 9 minutes, 36.11 seconds on Saturday at the Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Open that was only 2.61 seconds off of her school record.
Tucker finished 2 minutes and 17 seconds ahead of runner-up Hannah Assenmacher of Lawrence Tech University.
