Sylvan Disselkoen

He is survived by his children: Jeff and Tamara Disselkoen of Englewood, FL, and Jill English of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Maxwell Disselkoen, Mason Disselkoen, Carlen and Brent Seaver (Evelyn and Lucy), Lauren McColly, Katelyn Lokker and Justine Lokker; his siblings: Joyce and Jay Dykstra, Al and Sally Disselkoen, Melvin and Carol Disselkoen and Warren and Linda Disselkoen; his sister-in-law: Carolyn Geers.

Syl was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 2016 and his daughter Jodi Lokker on May 31 of this year, and his brother Simon Disselkoen.

Syl lived his life with kindness, living out his deep faith in service to others. He always gave the best of himself to his family, saying, “yes!” to any request for help and delighting in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He found so much joy in being “Grandpa Great” to the littlest ones in his family. He loved reading to them and making them laugh, just like he did with his grandchildren when they were young. He was so proud of each one, encouraging them with his words and supporting them with the daily prayers he lifted for them by name. He was so happy to have spent time with each grandchild in the weeks just prior to his sudden illness. Syl loved to serve others – his family, his church, those he shared life with at Warm Friend, and in the many communities in which he lived over the years. He made us all want to be better people.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. The funeral service will be 10 am Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the chapel at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road, Holland, MI 49423.
