Hope College’s Ashlea Swingewood has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week.
The freshman from Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) is receiving the honor for the first time in her career.
Swingewood excelled during an MIAA triangular against Albion College and Alma College on Friday at Holland Aquatic Center and helped the Flying Dutch earn two team wins.
Swingewood clocked the fastest 1,000-yard freestyle swim in the MIAA so far this season with a time of 10:53.83. Her time was nearly five seconds ahead of teammate Norah Martin, who posted the second-fastest time in the conference. The next closest competitor was nearly 17 seconds off of Swingewood’s pace.
Swingewood’s swim also currently sits in the top 30 for Division III this season.
In the 100 freestyle, Swingewood posted a winning time of 54.67 seconds.
