Last night in Holland, Hope swept a pair of games to open up its basketball seasons. In the opener, Olivia Bellows scored 19 points as the Flying Dutch set a NCAA Division III record for points in a contest with a 143-57 triumph over visiting Geneva. The Flying Dutchmen captured the nightcap from visiting Wisconsin-Stout, 74-63, behind 18 points from Marcus Wourman. It’s another hoops doubleheader at DeVos Fieldhouse today, beginning at 2:30 PM on 99 7/1450 WHTC with the Flying Dutch hosting Illinois Wesleyan, an 86-38 winner on Friday over Concordia of Wisconsin. That will be immedately followed by the Flying Dutchmen entertaining Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with coverage on The Lakeshore’s 92 7 The Van.
Grand Valley State began its basketball seasons with split Friday afternoon results. The men lost in Nashville to Southwest Baptist, 85-82, as Quinn Nelson tallied 27 points for the Bearcats. The Lakers captured the women’s game at Missouri-St. Louis, 81-55, thanks in part to 12 points from Emily Spitzley. GVSU’s teams return to action this afternoon, with the men at Trevecca Nazarene, and the women at Maryville.
