ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 29, 2022) – For the fourth time in this fall semester, there has been a reported act of violence at an off-campus apartment complex near Grand Valley State University.
However, the overnight incident on Saturday at the 48west Apartments complex just west of the Allendale campus didn’t involve a gun, which the other three incidents did, but was instead a case of a stabbing of a single victim.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies were dispatched to the area around 2:45 AM. The victim had already left the scene, and while Crime Scene Technicians were combing the unit for clues, the department was notified by Corewell-Butterworth Hospital staff that the victim had arrived at that Grand Rapids medical facility for treatment. The unnamed victim was initially listed in stable condition with wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening. Dill added that, while no arrests were immediately made, “there is no on-going threat to the public, students or staff at this time.”
In the other three incidents since late August, gunfire was heard at the Alpine Student Living facility and the Canvas Townhomes complex, with a total of five persons needing treatment for injuries, and one suspect reportedly in custody.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
