Herb graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Law degree. He went on to practice law and then worked as a Trust officer at several banks over the years.
He had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. These included all kinds of boating from ice boats to sailing. He thoroughly enjoyed reading and was active in many book discussion groups. Singing in the church choir, traveling, dancing, golfing, skiing, hunting, and fishing were also enthusiastically pursued.
Herb had a ready laugh and wise words for all of his friends and family. Many thanks to the nurses and aides who lovingly cared for him this last year at the Inn at Freedom Village.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Dakin; grandson Alex Dakin; and granddaughter Annie Dakin.
He is survived by his son, Peter and Kelly Dakin; son, David and Kjersti Dakin, daughter Mary Beth and Jeff Serdahely; grandchildren; Riley Dakin, Casey Dakin, Maxine Dakin, Levi Dakin, Kevin, and Angie Serdahely, and Susan and Conner Hughes.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Third Reformed Church, 111 West 13th St. Holland MI 49423 with Rev. Dr. Ryan Boes officiating.
Memorial contributions in Herbert’s honor may be given to Third Reformed Church.
