Hope College’s Greta Gidley has been named the MIAA Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore from Franklin, Michigan (Mercy HS) is receiving the honor for the first time in her career.
Gidley swam a leg on the record-breaking 4×100-yard medley relay on Friday night during the MIAA Relays at Calvin University. The relay combined to break the previous record by roughly eight seconds.
Gidley’s split of 59.45 would have been the fastest in the country to date had she led the relay off.
On Saturday at the “Be Better; Invitational” hosted by Calvin, Gidley competed in the second place 8×50-yard medley relay — swimming both the breaststroke and freestyle legs in the unconventional event format.
The Hope quartet finished second with a time of 3:28.06 behind the University of Michigan’s A relay.
