HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 20, 2022) – A 17-year-old Zeeland man suffered critical injuries following a two-vehicle crash just north of Zeeland on Thursday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ryan DeVries, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 96th Avenue and North Wind Drive, just north of Riley Street, around 12:45 PM. That was where a northbound gravel truck, driven by a 57-year-old Zeeland man, was approaching the junction when the teen, driving a sedan, had initially stopped but then pulled out from the side street in front of the truck, causing a collision.
Rescuers had to extricate the teen from his vehicle, and he was airlifted to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital for treatment. The truck driver was also reportedly hurt, but DeVries didn’t immediately disclosed his condition.
As a result of the crash, the northern entrance to Zeeland East High School was blocked off, compelling school officials to issue a district-wide alert about bus transportation delays as a result. The incident remains under investigation.
