ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 17, 2022) – The dream of a 45 to 50-unit apartment building on the site of a former furniture factory in Zeeland could take another step towards reality tonight.
The city council will consider during its biweekly meeting a development and reimbursement agreement with Geenen DeKock Properties Zeeland for renovating the structure on East Main into what would be known as Sligh Apartments. The Holland-based developer bought the property a year ago from a firm that had been using it as a warehouse, and plans on spending around $16 million for converting it into a residential complex. The 30-year-long agreement would reimburse GDK just over $2.5 million from the city’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority for necessary clean-up efforts.
Council will not only go over the deal in its workstudy session beforehand, but will also consider reappointments to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority that will be voted on in the business meeting, and get an update on the Main Avenue Project.
The workstudy session begins at 6 PM before the 7 PM meeting in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
