Michael was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, counselor, therapist, mentor, veteran, avid reader, writer, storyteller, movie buff and so well-loved. His kind, soft-spoken, and calming presence will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anne Henry, and sister, Melissa Torres. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy, and blended family of children, Shawn (Norm Siegel) Owen, Michael (Lisa) Henry, Angela (Dan) Shelley, Jennifer Huffman, grandchildren, Brennen, Drake, Henry, Egan, Moira, Oscar, William, and sister, Marti (Doug) Alberts, as well as extended family and many supportive and valued friends.
Michael attended East Grand Rapids High School, Grand Valley State University, and the University of Michigan. He served in the Air Force from 1970 to 1973. Later he went on to receive his Ph.D. in psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. He was a practicing clinical psychologist and therapist for over 40 years, mostly in private practice in Holland.
A special thanks to Atrio, especially Elsa, Makayla, Karen, Laurel, and others, who helped to keep Michael at home with excellent care until his transfer to Boersma Cottage. Also special thanks to Boersma Cottage, Janssen Cottage of Resthaven, and Hospice of Holland all with wonderful, caring staff.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 28 at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. There will be a memorial service at Hope Church, 77 W. 11th St. Holland, on Saturday, October 29 at 11 am with a luncheon to follow.
