WYOMING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 15, 2022) – A 37-year-old Sparta man will be spending the rest of the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail after a Saturday afternoon arrest west of Grand Rapids.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Tamminga, the suspect pulled away from a prowl car that attempted to pull over his sedan in the area of Main and Baldwin streets in Jenison around 3:15 PM. The unnamed man drove east onto I-196 before his vehicle became disabled on the off ramp to Chicago Drive. He then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, attempting to elude deputies, local police from Grandville and Wyoming, and state police troopers, before being captured a short time later.
The suspect will be arraigned via video in Hudsonville District Court on charges not only from this incident, but also from several outstanding warrants against him. The matter remains under investigation.
