ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 3, 2022) – The celebration of Zeeland’s 175 years of existence continues.
Following an Organ and Trumpet Recital at Second Reformed Church on Sunday evening, there will be self-guided historic walking tours on Monday afternoon, from 3-6 PM, beginning at the Dekker Huis Museum (37 East Main Ave). Katelyn VerMerris is the executive director of the Zeeland Historical Society that operates the Museum.
A free community celebration dinner, along with a narrated story of Zeeland’s founding, is on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at Vande Luyster Square off of Church Street and Central Avenue, with attendees asked to bring a non-perishable pantry item to donate to His Harvest Stand Ministries.
On Wednesday from 10 AM to 3 PM, and on Thursday from 12 Noon to 6 PM, there will be hourly 45-minute-long Historic Trolley Tours starting at the First Reformed Church parking lot (148 East Central Ave.), with online reservations encouraged.
A traditional tea social is on Friday, from 10:30 AM & 1:30 PM, at the historic New Groningen Schoolhouse (10537 Paw Paw Drive), with tea, coffee and light refreshment provided. Online reservations are required.
The annual Pumpkinfest on Friday & Saturday ends the week-long celebration, with an Avenue of Art exhibit and the anniversary being the theme of the Saturday downtown parade, as the oldest living descendants of Zeeland’s settlers honored as the parade’s grand marshals.
