LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 29, 2022) – Mary Whiteford may only have three months left as a state House member, but the Casco Township Republican will have a heavy responsibility on her shoulders before she leaves Lansing.
The term-limited legislator was tapped on the shoulder by House Speaker Jason Wentworth to become chair of the Lower Chamber’s Appropriations Committee following the resignation of Thomas Albert of Lowell over his objection to a $1.1 million supplemental budget measure.
Lowell argued that now is not the time to spend more money given an uncertain economy, and Whiteford understands those concerns.
The bill passed the Senate and House on Wednesday.
