LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 30, 2022) – Spring Lake has earned a state honor.
The northwest Ottawa County village was designated on Monday as an Essential Redevelopment Ready Community by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation yesterday. It indicates that Spring Lake, along with Clawson and Mount Clemens in the Detroit area, have “a vision for the future and fundamental practices in place to get there,” according to a MEDC statement.
Spring Lake earned the honor through creating a public participation plan, a fully updated, modern and user-friendly zoning ordinance, and ease of access to development-ready information on its web site. It is just the sixth such community to garner “Essentials” status, joining Greenville as coming from West Michigan, while Holland, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, Allegan and Plainwell are among 65 who are considered “Certified.”
The MEDC launched the Redevelopment Ready Community program nine years ago in an effort to help municipalities “build a foundation of planning, zoning and economic development best practices, integrating them into their everyday functions.”
