Thelma Johnson, age 103, went to meet her Savior on August 18, 2022.
Her long life gave her many opportunities to be a Christ-like example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a positive role model to her family and friends and will be missed!
Thelma was born in Zeeland to Daniel and Jennie Meeuwsen. She graduated from Zeeland High School and attended Holland Business College. Thelma worked in the office of the Heinz Company from 1937 to 1944. In 1944 she married Alvin Johnson after he returned home from WWII service in North Africa and Italy. Together they raised their family in Zeeland.
Thelma was a lifetime member of North Street Church, where she was very involved in the Zeeland Christian School Circle and the Ladies Aid Society. She also volunteered in various community organizations. Thelma enjoyed getting together with friends for breakfast or an evening of cards and games.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; granddaughter Jennifer Johnson Connolly, her brothers: Jerry and Joyce Meeuwsen, Marvin and Anita Meeuwsen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Bess Johnson, Gerald and Sylvia Johnson, Grace and Jerry Zoet.
Thelma is survived by her children: Herman and Marie Johnson, Joyce and Ed Zylstra, Ken and Joyce Johnson, Jim and Marcee Johnson; brother and sister-in-law Howard and Marian Johnson, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma’s family is grateful for the kindness and excellent care from the staff of Royal Park Atrium and Hospice of Holland.
Funeral services to honor the faith and life of Thelma Johnson will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at North Street Christian Reformed Church, 20 East Main Ave., Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will also be at North Street Church in the Atrium from 9:45-10:45 AM, prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Thelma’s honor to Zeeland Christian School.
