HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – Construction of a new water transmission main on Lakewood Blvd. between 160th and River Avenue in Holland is continuing, and more traffic detours are coming later this month.
The work began in March and will continue through November 2022.
City officials say the new water main will provide important redundancy, increasing the reliability of Holland BPW’s water distribution system, as well as providing benefits to Holland Charter Township and Zeeland water customers. The new transmission main will also increase the capacity of the water distribution system, making it possible to serve our community’s growing needs as the region continues to develop.
The next phase of construction will continue to impact local traffic patterns. River Avenue will be closed at Lakewood Blvd. for about three weeks, starting August 20 and lasting into September. When River Avenue re-opens, traffic will be restricted to two lanes until the water main project is completed in November.
Holland BPW project planners say they take care to minimize disruption to the community. Special consideration and steps are in place to keep Ottawa Beach Road and Douglas Avenue open during this time. Businesses located on River Avenue between Lakewood Blvd. and Ottawa Beach Road/Douglas Ave will be accessible to the public.
Project updates and suggested alternate routes are listed on HollandBPW.com.
