He was blessed with the gift of music and at the young age of nine began playing the piano. Clare started playing the organ for church services at the age of 17 and was a church organist/pianist for seven decades. During this time, he dedicated his musical talents to enriching the lives of others playing at weddings, funerals, hymn sings, for choirs and quartets, and community events, and also taught piano students. He was also the Chaplain organist while serving in the Korean War. Clare was a member of Graafschap CRC.
During his employment as a bookkeeper at a local radio station, he played an on-air daily hymn request program.
Clare was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Callie Brink; siblings: Lillian Boeve, Kenneth Walters; and in-laws: Elaine Walters, George Dykstra, Ivan, and Donna Groenheide.
Clare is survived by his wife of 71 years, Norma Walters; children: Debra and Tim Boeve, Dawn and Marc Brink, Denise and Bill Ensing, Deanne and Mark Buckland; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings: Austin and Ann Walters, Marilyn Dykstra; in-laws Leon and Bev Groenheide, Audley Boeve; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Graafschap Christian Reformed Church, 5973 Church Street, Holland MI 49423. Visitation will be at church from 10:00 to 11:45 AM prior to the service on Monday.
