HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – The Holland Farmers Market is joining the celebration National Farmers Market Week through this Saturday.
National Farmers Market Week is an effort led by the nationwide Farmers Market Coalition to bring awareness to the value that farmers markets bring to their communities. The national event recognizes the five main benefits that markets offer the communities they serve: preserving farmland, stimulating the local economy, increasing access to nutritious food, supporting healthy communities and promoting sustainability.
“Everyone at the Holland Farmers Market is grateful for the Mayor’s proclamation of National Farmers Market Week in the City of Holland,” said Holland Farmers Market Marketing Coordinator Kara de Alvare. “During National Farmers Market Week, our staff takes the time to recognize the dedicated and hard-working farmers and vendors that make the Market possible. We also use the week as a time to thank our local customers that have been supporting the Market for the past 45 years.”
To celebrate National Farmers Market Week, the Holland Farmers Market is hosting a social media photo contest for a chance to win $100 in Market Bucks gift certificates. All week long, Market customers are encouraged to snap a photo at the Market, take a pic of their Market haul at home, or grab a photo of a dish made with their market ingredients. Photos can be posted to the Holland Farmers Market’s Facebook page, sent via private message, or posted publicly with the hashtag #hollandfarmersmarket to be entered into the contest.
One lucky winner will be selected at random Monday, August 15 to win $100 in Market Bucks gift certificates to spend at the Market. (Must be 18+ to enter.)
Children are invited to join in on the fun for National Farmers Market Week by completing the official Holland Farmers Market scavenger hunt and turning it in for a fun prize, including Market-themed stickers, tattoos, and pencils. Scavenger hunts are available at the Market front desk on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm inside the front vestibule of the Holland Civic Center Place (150 West 8th Street). The scavenger hunt can also be downloaded and printed at home at https://bit.ly/3zAOQbF.
