Harold Brandsen

By Patty Vandenberg Jul 27, 2022 | 10:40 AM
Harold was born on a farm North of Holland and attended Holland High School. In 1955 he entered the U.S. Army after enlisting. He served two years and was honorably discharged in 1957. As a young man, he had several jobs which included Dutch Boy Bakery, General Electric in Holland, and Kalkman Redi-Mix. He then hired on for Kroger Whse, Worden Company, and later SlickCraft Boats. His love was in driving truck, and he did it well. For a time later he tried his hand at selling cars for Elhart Pontiac and he finally ended up working at the Holland Post Office.

He met the love of his life at the beach the first summer out of the Army. He and Karen Ende married in 1959 and would eventually raise two children. Very much a family man he attended as many school activities as he could. And he even drove a school bus for West Ottawa. Harold and Karen have always loved to travel and found in their retirement years that it was Gulf Shores, Alabama that captured their hearts. He was an avid golfer, and so enjoyed his coffee friends. For the past 15 years, he has worked at Crown Motors doing dealer trades.

Faith was a big part of Harold’s life, and he served several stints as Deacon, and Elder at Trinity Reformed Church in Holland. He and Karen loved to follow Christian Music and often attended the Bill Gaither Praise Gatherings, and the Nat’l Quartet Conventions.

Surviving are his wife Karen, their daughter and son-in-law Julie and Jeff Grady of Hamilton. A son David passed away in August of 2016. Grandchildren surviving are Emily and Luke Stafford and their daughter Nora, son Harrison, and son Callahan, Sidney and Eric Duprey, Josie Grady, Kacie Grady, Gracie Grady, and Fischer Grady. There are also two grandchildren in San Diego, CA. He is survived by one sister, Florence VanHook, and one sister-in-law Jeanne (Herm) DeJong of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Avenue, Holland. A time of visitation will precede the service from 1:00-2:45. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or a charity of one’s choice. www.yntemafh.com
