
Eugene Thomas Latchaw, age 90 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Eugene was born in Pullman, Michigan on April 6, 1932, and was the son of the late Russell and Anna (Radseck) Latchaw.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean (Niffenegger) Latchaw; his brothers, George (Barb) Latchaw and Eric (Mary) Latchaw; his sisters, Esther (Robert) Slotman and Joyce (Ron) Herweyer.
He is survived by his brother, Russell (Cathy) Latchaw; son, Michael (Pam) Latchaw; daughters, Laurie Latchaw and Lisa Latchaw; grandson, Ryan Latchaw; granddaughters, Alexis Delacruz and Amanda Latchaw; great-granddaughter, Liliana; as well as several other extended family members.
Eugene graduated from South Haven High School in 1951 and enlisted in the National Guard from 1951-1953 and then served honorably in the United States Army from 1953 – 1957. Following his military time, he came back to Michigan to marry his true love, Jean Marie Niffenegger. He also went on to attend Western Michigan University earning his Bachelor of Science degree. Once he earned his degree, he went on to work at G.E., Rockwell International, and Campbell Mushroom Plant. After he retired, he became a volunteer fireman with Ganges Township for 30 years. Eugene enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, and hunting with his brothers, trips to Mackinaw with his family, ice cream, and sitting in the car at the beach. He was loved and will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Glenn Community Center (6953 114th Ave, Glenn, MI 49416). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eugene’s name to the Ganges Township Firefighters (c/o Ganges Fire Station, 6957 114th Avenue, South Haven, MI 49090). The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers of Hospice of Holland. Your kindness and compassion are greatly appreciated.
