OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – While the state’s overall population has dropped, Ottawa County continues to be one of the fastest-growing counties in Michigan.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest population estimates for 2021, the county was the fastest growing in Michigan by total population change, adding 2,957 residents from 2020 to 2021. At 299,157 residents in 2021, that’s about a one percent increase from 2020 t0 2021.
Allegan County grew by 0.2 percent, adding 448 residents last year to reach an estimated population of 120,950.
Over the last decade, Ottawa County has been growing at the fastest pace in the state, recording a 12.3 percent increase in population from 2010-2020. Michigan’s overall population dropped by 0.26 percent, or 26,520 residents.
Most other large counties in Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb reported population losses.
Within Ottawa County, Jamestown Township and Holland Township showed the biggest population growth, at 2.8 percent each. The cities of Holland and Zeeland saw slight population losses in 2021, although both showed gains since the last census in 2010.
