Phyllis was born in Rock Valley, Iowa October 26, 1940. Phyllis was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Phyllis most loved being with her family and spending time with friends and relatives.
She was a long-time member of Maple Avenue Ministries and a current member of the Faith Christian Reformed Church. Phyllis loved to give of her time through various organizations, Prison Fellowship, Kids Hope, Rehoboth Christian Schools, and World Renew.
She always enjoyed singing and being a part of the Evergreen Chorale as well as the Calvin
Oratorio Society. Her love of the arts was always evident through attendance at the Grand
Rapids Symphony, Hope College Summer Repertory Theater, and other local music performances.
Mom enjoyed being outdoors in all of the seasons in Michigan. Most of all she loved to share those experiences with family and friends, such as camping and hiking. Making time to gather with her nursing class friends of over 60 years was an important time for her. Phyllis enjoyed attending events of her grandchildren and spending time with them where they live in Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and New Zealand.
She was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws, Henry Lee (Lois) Vander Bok, Sharon (Lon) Laackman, Milton Vander Berg, Eylene Schmidt, and Ronald Laninga.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eugene; children, Brad (Patti) Laninga of Holland, Bonnie (Scott) Kooiman of Frankfort, IL, Barb (Todd) Gosselink of Pella, IA, Beth (Andy) Savage of Whanganui, New Zealand; 11 grandchildren, Breanna, Allison, Dylan Kooiman; Caleb, Levi, Isaac Laninga; Abigail, Benjamin, Jacob Gosselink; Maggie, Ella Savage; sister, Marlene Vander Berg; in-laws, Vernon and Ann Laninga, Betty Laninga, Dale, and Gail Laninga; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be at 10 am Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 85 W. 26th St. Holland with Pastors Chad Pierce and Jen Rozema officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Rehoboth Christian School, PO Box 41, Rehoboth, NM 87322-0041, and Zuni Mission Christian School, 19 Pia Mesa Road, Zuni, NM 87327.
