HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – Hope College has reportedly begun discussions with city leaders to expand its footprint in downtown Holland.
Hope College Director of Operations Kara Slater told FOX 17 they are looking to build three buildings with lots of green space, to try and make it feel like it’s part of campus. The largest building would have classrooms and event space, and house the college’s economics and business department.
The other two buildings would be mixed-use and residential halls, with public space on the main floors and student housing in the upper levels.
While designs are in their early stages, the college plans to have a focus on the property it has between 8th and 9th streets and west of Columbia Avenue.
School officials say they need the expanded facilities because the college is on track for a record number of new students in 2022.
The college plans to meet with the city again in August to talk about moving forward with the project.
