ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – The Allegan County Health Department will start providing COVID-19 vaccinations for children aged 6 months through five years old this Thursday.
Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines will be available, but by appointment only.
The vaccines were authorized and recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier last week. Parents interested in getting the vaccine for their child are encouraged to talk to their child’s pediatrician for more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and how to obtain it. To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment with the ACHD, visit our online scheduler. Please call 269-673-5411 if you have more than one person to schedule or if you need to make an appointment for a different day or time than offered online. A parent or guardian must be present for the child to receive the vaccination.
In clinical trials, vaccine side effects were mild, similar to those seen in adults and older children, and other non-COVID-19 vaccines that are recommended for children.
