ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – Data to help plan future internet service is being gathered in Allegan County.
Michigan Connect, an organization that Allegan County officials say is dedicated to bringing the benefits of high speed internet to the entire state, has started its county-by-county, on the ground surveying of fiber connections.
The surveying of Allegan County is underway and their survey vehicle has been seen in both Martin and Salem townships.
County officials say the purpose of the on-the-ground survey is to definitively establish where existing fiber is located and where it is not. They say previous information provided to the Federal Communications Commission was not thorough enough to determine where the resources granted townships, cities, counties and the State of Michigan should be focused.
According to Allegan County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jim Storey, it’s believed the data collected and shared by Michigan Connect will allow the Broadband Action Workgroup to target its efforts to the unserved and underserved areas of the county.
