Irven was born and raised in Iowa. He graduated from Central College in 1955 and then came to Holland, MI to attend Western Theological Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity from Western in 1958 and was ordained in the Reformed Church of America. Irven served churches in Baileyville, IL, and Waterloo, IA before coming to Zeeland where he was the founding pastor of Community Reformed Church. After 14 years at Community, he served in Waupun, WI for 13 years before retiring in Zeeland and serving part-time at Community Reformed for seven more years.
Irven was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by those who survive, including his wife (and high school sweetheart) of nearly 69 years, Gladys Jungling; children: Jeanne and Bill Kraak, Jeffrey and Sadie Jungling, Lori Jungling, Todd, and Teresa Jungling; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Meredith and Jonathan Loss (Mikayla, Noah, Logan), Nathan and Sandra Kraak (Faith, Silas), Bryan and Michelle Kraak, Alex Kraak, Brooke and Jake Folkringa (Mollie, Max), Scott and Rachel Jungling (Avery, Noah); siblings: Kenneth and Jeanne Jungling, Delores and Vincent Bush; as well as extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch Street, Zeeland, MI 49464. Visitation with the family will be at Community Reformed Church on Thursday, June 16 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Western Theological Seminary.
