OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 1, 2022) – For the second time in a two-week span, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department has been called in to investigate an animal abuse situation.
According to Detective Captain Jake Sparks, staffers at the Harbor Humane Society arrived at the complex off of US-31 last Saturday morning (May 28) to find a dog tied up outside without any way to get to food or water. The canine , who apparently had been left there overnight, was taken in and cared for by a veterinarian.
The HHS posted images of the dog on various social media as animal control deputies began an investigation. The images solicited several responses as to the identity of the dog’s owner, and it was determined that a 35-year-old Port Sheldon Township woman was that owner.
As of Wednesday, when Sparks issued a Sheriff’s Department statement on the matter, no charges had yet been filed pending a review of the case by the county prosecutor’s office, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
On May 19, deputies were called to an 8×5 storage shed on property off of Port Sheldon Street and 104th Avenue in West Olive where 27 cats were found inside. That separate investigation involving a 68-year-old Holland Township woman is ongoing.
