Ronald Jay Slagh, age 69, of Holland, went through the door to his Heavenly home to meet his Lord and Savior Friday, May 27, 2022, at Spectrum Health Blodgett.
Ron was a long-time member of Beechwood Church where he served as elder, deacon, and on the executive team, helped start the out-door worship service, was on the committee to place the large screen in the sanctuary, and was part of Steven’s ministry and Ron and his wife Gail participated in the donut program.
Ron was part owner of Filler Specialties in Zeeland. Ron’s father taught him to work hard and as a teenager, he was able to buy his first rental property. He worked alongside his dad to start the Filler Specialties business in 1973 at 21 years old. He spent a lot of his career in sales/engineering for the company and was able to travel around the world.
Ron enjoyed boating, traveling, horseshoes, golfing with Gail, watching grandkids play sports, reading western books and watching western movies, hunting, downhill skiing, Nascar, playing cards with cousins, snowmobiling, and was a good softball pitcher. As president of their homeowner’s association in Florida, he oversaw many projects.
Ron had a strong sacrificial love for his family, always putting them first above all earthly things. He was a man of integrity; honest, kind, forgiving, hard-working, pragmatic and lived life with unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His greatest advice is his example of how to live, and how to love, and his slogan was “Make a great day.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Barbara (Bremer) Slagh.
He is survived by his wife Gail of 47 years and children: Eme Helms and fiancé Jason Grant of Holland and Joshua Slagh of Holland; grandchildren: Hailey Venlet, and Camden and Deeken Helms; brothers and sisters: Bev (Mel) Assink of Hamilton, Vern (Deb) Slagh of Zeeland, Darcy (Doug) Dreyer of Borculo and Bruce Slagh of Zeeland; brothers-in-law: Larry (Sue) Bouma of The Villages, FL, John Bouma of Holland and Roger (Char) Bouma of Grand Rapids; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
