LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 27, 2022) – Two of the top six counties in Michigan for low unemployment are along the Lakeshore.
In data disclosed by the state Department of Technology, Management and Budget on Thursday, Ottawa County was the second lowest in joblessness during April at 2.8 percent, a tenth of a percentage point behind Livingston County, and Allegan County was tied with Kent County for fifth lowest at 3.2 percent. This compares with March figures which showed Ottawa County the lowest in Michigan at three percent even, and Allegan sixth lowest at 3.5 percent.
In 13 of the 17 state labor market areas, unemployment rates that are not seasonally adjusted fell from March to April, showing some sense of stability according to department officials, with improvement in seasonal industries such as construction and leisure/hospitality. For the year, joblessness dropped throughout Michigan by nearly two percent.
