HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 21, 2022) – There will be a new leader for those seeking education at Hope College this fall.
Becky Starkenburg, currently the vice president for student life, as well as the Title IX coordinator at Trinity Christian College in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights, was named on Friday by the Holland-based institution of higher education as its new Dean of Students. Her appointment, effective on August 1st, concludes a nationwide search for a replacement for Dr. Richard Frost, whose retirement on July 31st ends a 33-year association with Hope.
“Becky brings a passion for students, a heart for Christian liberal arts education and a broad set of experiences spanning more than two decades in various student affairs roles at both small private liberal arts colleges and a large state university,” College President Matthew Scogin said in a school statement. “We’re pleased to welcome her to our team while thanking Dean Richard Frost for his excellent service to Hope and our students.”
“I am incredibly humbled and excited to be called to join the Hope College community as dean of students,” Starkenburg is quoted in that same school statement. “I am eager to build authentic relationships with the amazing students of Hope College as we create, sustain and cultivate a thriving community in which they will flourish.”
A graduate of Northwestern College, a similar RCA-affiliated school to Hope, with a masters degree from Michigan State, Starkenburg spent six years at the University of Virginia before coming to Trinity Christian in 2008, and has been in her current position for nine years. She will be responsible for the multi-faceted development of around 3,200 students at Hope College.
