Dorothy “Dottie” Heney

By Patty Vandenberg May 19, 2022 | 10:40 AM
Dorothy “Dottie” Heney, age 90, of Zeeland, Michigan left her earthly home to find her
permanent residence with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Riley’s Grove Assisted Living and Memory Care in Zeeland with family by her side.
Dottie attended Oakhill Church in Grand Rapids, MI. She retired from her employment as
a regional director with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in 1996. She spent her life helping others and will be missed by her many friends and family. She loved to travel and create memories with each of her grandchildren taking them on adventure trips. She walked the Great Wall of China, climbed the bridge in Sidney, Australia, and zip-lined over a volcano in Nicaragua while on a mission trip. She was talented and blessed her friends and family with many baskets, stained glass, brooms, paintings, and blankets she created. We will miss her stories, wit, and humor. Her legacy continues as she passed on her gifts, talents, and abundant love.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas E. & Margaret (Kinnard) Heney; siblings:
Thomas E. Heney Jr., Margaret Broadwater; and grandson, Nathan.
She is survived by her children: Mark (Jeri) Kelley, and Diane (Donnie) Babcock; grandchildren:
Dustin Babcock, Danielle (Sean) Patterson, Deanna Babcock, Daniel Ralph, Amanda McDonald,
Bryan Ralph; great-grandchildren: Devyn, Delaney, Penelope, Molly, Ollie, Josiah; sister-in-law:
Marjorie Heney; and nieces who were as close as daughters to her: Peggle Mittricker (Dave
Berry), Sue (Don) Franklin, and Cindy Broadwater.
Burial will take place in Pennsylvania, and memorial contributions may be given in Dottie’s
memory to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Grand Rapids.
