Baseball Lands Three on CoSIDA Academic All-District® Baseball Teams
Three Hope College baseball teammates have received College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® Baseball honors for the 2022 season.
Pitcher Sean Hoey, shortstop Brant Kym and center fielder Evan Maday are among academic all-district 12 honorees from NCAA Division III in District 6 that includes schools from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Hoey (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa HS) was selected as the MIAA’s 2022 MIAA Pitcher of the Year after leading the league in all games in wins with nine and a 3.18 earned run average. Hoey also led the MIAA in strikeouts with 80 and innings pitched with 70 ⅔.
Kym (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) recorded the second-highest batting average in Hope history this season at a career-high .468 clip. Kym finished second on the Flying Dutchmen with 41 RBIs and tied a career-high with three home runs.
Maday (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Kentwood) was named the MIAA’s 2022 Position Player of the Year by the league’s coaches after leading the MIAA in batting average for all games with a .436 clip. The four-time All-MIAA First Team selection topped Hope in home runs with a record-tying 11 and RBIs with a career-high 47.
All three graduated from Hope earlier this month after leading the Flying Dutchmen to an outright MIAA regular-season championship. Hoey majored in secondary education with an emphasis on integrated science group. Kym majored in business and economics. Maday majored in civil engineering.
SOFTBALL
Kaelin Callow Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District® Softball Team at First Base
Hope College’s Kaelin Callow has been voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® Softball Teams for the 2022 season.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Callow is one of 12 academic all-district selections from NCAA Division III in District 6 that includes schools from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The senior from Plainfield, Illinois (Plainfield HS) is one of four infielders to receive the distinction.
A biology major, Callow graduated from Hope College this month. On the field, Callow batted .344 this season for the Flying Dutch, who finished with a 26-12 record and were runner-up in both the MIAA regular-season standings and the league tournament. Hitting cleanup, Callow belted a career-high four home runs and recorded a .508 slugging percentage. Callow finished third on the team with 27 RBIs.
Defensively, Callow shined as well and did not commit an error in 256 total chances at first base.
SOFTBALL
Arinn King Earns NFCA All-Region Honors at Second Base
Hope College second baseman Arinn King has received all-region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The recent graduate from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) is a third-team selection in Region VII.
King started all 38 games for the Flying Dutch and helped Hope to a 26-12 overall record. Batting second, King shared the team lead with 15 extra-base hits and finished with a .303 batting average.
King belted a team-high 11 doubles and four home runs. King tied for the Flying Dutch’s RBI lead with 28.
