ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2022) – The Zeeland City Council meets this evening.
After a 5:45 study session in which the governing panel will look over the business meeting agenda and discuss a review of the city’s alcohol ordinance, Council members are expected to approve a three-year-long, tentative collective bargaining agreement between the Zeeland BPW and the Utility Workers Union of America AFL-CIO Local 556. The deal includes annual pay raises of 3.5 percent for the first and third years, with a four-percent hike in the middle year, along with improving wages for certain positions and an adjustment into a retirement defined contribution plan, among other items.
Also on the meeting agenda is a proposed development agreement between GDP, the Zeeland BPW and the city on renovating the Sligh Building on East Main Street that City Manager Tim Klunder says addresses some of the remaining provisions for the project, including vacating a portion of Maple Avenue at GDP’s cost, along with gateway, snowmelt and access improvements. The building is being repurposed into a mixed-use development.
The Zeeland City Council meeting begins in City Hall at 7 PM, with an online link to agenda documents here.
