HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2022) – Holland’s annual signature event isn’t all the way back from its pre-COVID levels, but it came very close in 2022.
The 93rd Tulip Time Festival concluded its nine-day run yesterday, and while attendance numbers for paid events and estimates for free activities won’t be disclosed until later this summer, the general consensus was that those figures would be near what it was in 2019, before the pandemic canceled the event two years ago, and health protocols limited the spectacle in 2021.
While there were only two parades instead of three, and no “big name” national entertainment acts were booked, the festival was still very successful, according to Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks.
“We’ve had everything at Tulip Time,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during a Friday appearance. “I know that we had record high (temperatures) this week, but we’re having record highs with everything. It’s not just the temperatures, but it’s the number of people, it’s the ticket sales, it’s the admissions, it’s the people at the parades – it’s been fantastic!”
The last piece of business is the digging up of the thousands of tulip bulbs planted by the City of Holland at Window on the Waterfront Park and Windmill Island. The date for the “Tulip Dig” to benefit the non-profit Holland in Bloom urban beautification initiative will be announced later this month.
