HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 14, 2022) – As the Tulip Time Festival Volksparade was winding down on Saturday afternoon, police were busy with a shooting incident on the South Side.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services Captain Bob Buursma, officers and first responders were dispatched to Harbor Village Apartments off of West 40th Street around 3:30 PM. That was where a 25-year-old Holland man had been wounded in the arm by two gun shots.
As the victim was being taken to Holland Hospital for treatment, officers were able to locate a 34-year-old man in a nearby unit and took him into custody without incident. It appears that the two were “acquainted with each other,” according to Buursma, and had a verbal confrontation that apparently led up to the shooting.
No names were immediately disclosed, and the suspect is spending the rest of the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail, while the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office will be reviewing the case before deciding on possible charges.
The festival did have an impact on this case, as Buursma said that his department’s detectives were aided in the matter by colleagues from the Michigan State Police and the sheriff’s departments from both Ottawa and Allegan counties, all of whom were in town for the Volksparade.
