HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 6, 2022) – Holland’s annual signature event gets underway this weekend.
Although the Carnival in the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place parking lot begins at 5 PM this evening, and there will be exhibitions of Dutch Dancing in Centennial Park shortly thereafter, the Tulip Time Festival kicks off in earnest on Saturday with a run at Kollen Park, walking tours at Window on the Waterfront, tall ship dockside tours at Boatwerks East, a quilt show and artisan market at Beechwood Church on the North Side, the First Bloem Festival Artwork Exhibit at Warehouse 6, a Tulip Immersion Garden at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, Guys on Ice performing at the Holland Community Theatre, and Sir Elton John tribute act Elton Rohn at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place.
Besides the star of the show – with more than a million tulip bulbs planted around town – many visitors will be checking out officially licensed merchandise at the Tulip Time offices off of West 8th Street, including the official poster. Local artist Kate Moynihan’s second sanctioned work won a juried contest earlier this year. “I generally paint with a palette knife, impressionistic,” she said on “WHTC Morning News” during an appearance earlier this week, “but I’ve been drifting a little more towards just lettting the paint go a little bit looser, so this ‘Bursting with Color’ (poster) just gave me a diversification of trying something a little bit more new, a little bit more contemporary – and bingo, there it was!”
Online sales and more information on the Tulip Time Festival, which runs through next Sunday, May 15th, is here.
