ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 6, 2022) – A 46-year-old Holland man was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash west of Allendale on Friday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and other first responders were dispatched around 6:25 PM to 78th Avenue north of Lake Michigan Drive. That was where the unnamed motorist, driving a Ford Mustang southbound in what Hallmeyer called “a reckless manner,” lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line, and slammed head on into a northbound full-sized pickup, driven by a 56-year-old Allendale man.
Rescue workers were able to extricate the Holland man out of his vehicle, and he was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of “serious but not life-threatening injuries,” according to Hallmeyer. The pick up truck driver was not hurt.
Hallmeyer added that, “alcohol is believed to be a factor” in the crash, which remains under investigation.
