Ruth was born in Zeeland on February 5, 1950, to James and Orma (Schrotenboer) Nyhof. Ruth was raised in Overisel and the Nyhof family were members of Overisel Christian Reformed Church. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1968, and from GRCC Nursing Program in 1970. Ruth worked for many years at Holland Hospital. On May 26, 1971, she married Donald Scholten. They were active members of Graafschap Christian Reformed Church. Ruth’s passion was evangelism and travel. She served on 15 medical mission trips to Honduras and multiple trips to Africa. She enjoyed her family and was a great mentor for her granddaughters. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents James and Orma Nyhof, and her parents-in-law Harvey and Marian Scholten, and sister-in-law Linda Weemhoff.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Don, their children: Renae and Philip Kok, Katie and Jeff Webster; granddaughters: Lauren Kok and fiancé Peter Morren, Madelyn Kok, Hannah Kok; siblings: Karen and Jerry De Jonge, Eldon and Mary Nyhof, Sally and Ken Krueze; in-laws: Marcia and Tom Veltman, Clyde and Toni Scholten, Dennis and Maureen Scholten, Kari and Tom Dykhuis, David Weemhoff; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Graafschap Christian Reformed Church, 5973 Church Street, Holland MI 49423. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Monday also at Graafschap CRC. Interment will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Graafschap CRC-Jubilee Fund, or Graafschap CRC-Christian Ed. Opportunity Fund.
