HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 27, 2022) – Making Holland government more efficient and more responsive to the needs of the community is an effort that has been more than two years in the making.
In 2019, City Council members discussed and prioritized having “effective boards and commissions” and to “recruit and maintain effective representation on boards, committees and commissions.” A pilot project with the Ottawa County Planning and Performance Department, sidetracked somewhat due to COVID 19 health protocols, presents a report and recommendations to the full Council for review and consideration during tonight’s 6 PM work-study session at Holland City Hall.
The report recommends confirm and improve the process for advertising, recruiting and appointing members of municipal boards and commissions; develop and provide regular training sessions; discuss and confirm potential changes to boards and commissions, including council’s roles as liaisons to these panels; and improve the organization and expectations for boards and commissions.
Also during this evening’s work-study session, council members will hold a special business session and go behind closed doors to review a legal opinion, an action allowed in the state’s Open Meetings Act.
