Whether a long-time friend or a brief acquaintance, those who knew Howard experienced his spirit of kindness, goodness, and generosity. He radiated light wherever he went. He was a graduate of Holland Christian High and Calvin College where he studied education.
Howard had a passion for nature and cultivating green things from the earth. After 27 years of growing students as a teacher in Fennville Public Schools, he retired and turned his hobby as a farmer into a second career. For 36 years he owned Ottawa Glad Growers where he diligently put his hands to the ground growing flowers for local florists, often working alongside his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his fields of flowers, Howard loved the Lord and loved his family. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, treasured grandfather, and faithful brother who will be deeply missed. He was an active member of Faith United Reformed Church.
