Howard Lee Lubbers

By Patty Vandenberg Apr 26, 2022 | 7:40 PM
Howard Lee Lubbers, age 79, of Holland, fell into the arms of Jesus on Monday, April 25, 2022.

Whether a long-time friend or a brief acquaintance, those who knew Howard experienced his spirit of kindness, goodness, and generosity. He radiated light wherever he went. He was a graduate of Holland Christian High and Calvin College where he studied education.

Howard had a passion for nature and cultivating green things from the earth. After 27 years of growing students as a teacher in Fennville Public Schools, he retired and turned his hobby as a farmer into a second career. For 36 years he owned Ottawa Glad Growers where he diligently put his hands to the ground growing flowers for local florists, often working alongside his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his fields of flowers, Howard loved the Lord and loved his family. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, treasured grandfather, and faithful brother who will be deeply missed. He was an active member of Faith United Reformed Church.

Howard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Lubbers; children: Clay and Jaci Lubbers, Matt and Shelly Lubbers, Christy and Bryan Berghoef, Jon Lubbers; grandchildren: Maggie, Christian, Nicholas, Cameron, Andrew, Henry, Winston, Charles, Josephine; siblings: Gloria and Dale Boss, Calvin and Jayne Lubbers, Lola and Paul Deters, Patti ad Rog Peeks; in-laws: Bob Dykstra, Betty Oase, Shirley and Jay Scholten; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St. Holland, MI 49423. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29 at Faith United Reformed Church, 8270 120th Ave. West Olive, MI 49460. Rev. Matthew Nuiver will officiate. Burial will be in East Saugatuck Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Zeeland Christian Schools, Holland Christian Schools, or Byron Center Christian Schools.
