WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 26, 2022) – A report card of sorts for public high schools nationwide was released today.
The annual US News and World Report of its 2022 Best High School rankings sized up around 24,000 schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Working with non-profit researchers RTI International, the publication ran the rule on college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breath and graduation rate. The results were adjusted to account for unusual changes due to COVID 19 health protocols, taking into account results over the past three years in math and reading.
The top two schools nationwide remained unchanged from 2021 – Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, and the Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston, South Carolina. The top school from Michigan was Grand Rapids City at 18th overall.
As for the Holland/Zeeland area, Black River was 14th statewide, with Zeeland West 86th, Saugatuck 91st, Zeeland East 102nd, West Ottawa 106th, Hamilton 188th and Holland 228th. Four other Ottawa County schools placed in the top 100 in Michigan – Hudsonville (37th), Spring Lake (39th), Jenison (40th) and Allendale (94th).
