Enid Viola Thomas, nee Woods, passed away peacefully at age 91 on April 8, 2022.
She was born on January 4, 1931, on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean to Irene and Bertram Woods.
She lived in Cameroon for 28 years with her eldest daughter’s family, blended with the new culture, and built lifelong friendships. Moving to the United States in her later years, she lived with another daughter’s family: yet another Cameroonian household.
With them, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she spent time with her church members and enjoyed the feeling of sisterhood. She showed compassion for those suffering around her, wanting to help them in any way she could. Her life was an example of Christlike love.
Enid was a dedicated and protective mother and grandmother. She treasured her family, fiercely loving them generously. She was known for her hard work, willing to teach those around her through her
strength and resilience.
As a woman of God, she was humbled by God’s grace and His infinite love for her. She understood that she was a daughter of God and as His child, she strived to follow the commandments, aligning her will to Heavenly Father’s. She learned of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and was amazed at His great love for everyone through her daily study of the scriptures, prayers, and regular church attendance. Her faith was strengthened each day as she strived to stay on the covenant path back to Heavenly Father. Her testimony of the gospel was built on Jesus Christ, our Redeemer who is the foundation and center of it.
Enid enjoyed all aspects of life which included the beauty around her, especially Springtime with all the blooming flowers. What a blessing for her to pass away in this beautiful time of nature! Above all though, she loved food, especially sweets and desserts. She never missed a chance to sample some whenever possible, sometimes engaging others to assist her in her quest. And they often did because her bubbly personality was infectious to those around her, with her ready laughter and bright smile.
Her offspring include six children, namely Patsy, Basil, Andrew, Alton, Carol, and Phyllis; 28 grandchildren (2 deceased), 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She had been married to Alvin Thomas who preceded her in death. She is mourned by siblings, represented by Muriel Woods (aka Coolie) and Vincent Joseph, in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and numerous friends around the world.
We are assured that as we celebrate her life in Holland Michigan on April 29th and 30th that she is safe in the arms of Our Resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ.
