HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 21, 2022) – No injuries were reported in the second house fire to strike a Holland neighborhood in less than a week.
According to Department of Public Safety Fire Operations Captain Chris Tinney, crews were dispatched around 7:20 PM on Wednesday to a residence in the 200 block of East 13th Street, just south of DeVos Fieldhouse. Flames were visible when they arrived, and firefighters were able to douse the blaze in short order, making sure that ventilation was complete and to prevent any further damage to the structure or neighboring buildings.
A portion of the kitchen was directly affected by the fire, and while there was no initial cost estimate, Tinney believed that the damage was repairable, but that the house would be uninhabitable until things are fixed. The displaced residents found temporary housing for the evening.
No cause of the fire was initially determined, but Tinney added that working smoke alarms were activated when crews arrived at the scene.
On Sunday, Holland firefighters were called to a blaze in the vicinity of West 32nd Street and Graafschap Road that led to the deaths of several family pets, but no human injuries.
