HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 20, 2022) – The next step in the budget-making process for the City of Holland takes place this evening.
The Holland City Council will go over a proposed spending plan put forward by City Manager Keith Van Beek and his staff for Fiscal 2023 in a work-study session ahead of the biweekly business meeting, in which a public hearing and final vote will be set for May 4th. The $28.5 million financial blueprint will dip into reserves to make up an anticipated $89,000 shortfall, thanks in part to a general fund revenue surplus of nearly $381,000.
During the regular business meeting after the work-study session, Council will hold a public hearing ahead of a vote on a proposed Urban Cooperation Agreement with neighboring Fillmore Township. This pact focuses on a retail water agreement between the municipally-held Holland BPW and the township that would involve revenue sharing and transferring about 156 acres of land to the city, in exchange for providing water services to all portions of the township north of the I-196 freeway. A UCA between these municipal entities was enacted 12 years ago as part of the construction of the current LG Energy Solution lithium-ion battery-making facility, and a similar Water Services Agreement was approved with Park Township in 2021.
In addition, Council will approve a resolution of appreciation for services rendered to the city by Mike Trethewey and Raul Garcia, both of whom stepped down from the governing panel after deciding not to run for reelection last year.
